I had to stand on a camera case to meet him eye to eye. I shot with a very narrow depth of field, so his eyes are sharp, but his ears were soft to capture the intensity of the man. I was used to shooting young, fresh-faced musicians, so working with a character whose face looked like a map of the world was thrilling.
